  • Nea Paldanius

    Role: Chairperson
    Totem animal: Moray

Hiya! I’m Nea, a third year laboratory science student and I’m acting as HTO’s chairperson this year. Outside of studying, I like to spend my time with various arts and crafts, video games, and spending time with my friends.

As chairperson of the board I ensure that the board always follows the rules and laws guiding us. I also e.g. chair our board meetings, follow each of my board members’ sectors and make sure everything gets done and the workload is divided evenly, and take action if any issues surrounding these arise.

  • Inka syväjärvi

Roles: Vice Chair, Communication, Graphic Design, Couch and Hair
    Totem animal: Opossum

Hi! I’m Inka, originally from Lahti but now living in Helsinki. I’m studying mechanical engineering in my second year whenever I manage to fit it in around work and other busy schedules. In my free time you’ll find me sleeping, doing crosswords, playing various mobile games, or at Femma.

This year I’m on the board as vice chairperson, communications coordinator, graphic designer, and couch & hair representative . As vice chairperson, I support the chairperson when needed, act as their other hand, and step in when they’re unavailable. As communications coordinator and graphic designer, my tasks include updating social media, designing coverall patches, creating promotional materials, and writing marketing texts. As couch & hair representative, I make sure board members’ hair is on point and that Jalmari’s couch is safe and sound.

    Totem animal: Manatee

Hellou! I’m Joel, better known as Joje, and I’ve lived in Vantaa for most of my life. I’m a second-year mechanical engineering student at our beloved Myrtsi.

In my free time I spend time at the gym and vibe to heavy music.

This year my responsibilities at HTO are vice chair, advocacy, and harassment contact person. As vice chair I assist the chairperson and the rest of the board as best as I can and make sure the chairperson doesn’t burn out. In advocacy my main tasks are to look after students’ interests, promote wellbeing, and stand up for students when necessary. As the harassment contact person, you can get in touch with me if you’ve experienced harassment or other inappropriate behavior.

    Totem animal: Trash Panda

Hello hello! My name’s Alexander Forsström, I’m 22 years old according to my ID. Future resident of Myyrmäki, and currently in my second year studying Energy and Environmental Engineering. This is my first year in HTO’s board, but previously I was in Me BiEn’s board and tutor for METKA.

In my free time you’ll most likely find me sleeping, painting small plastic figurines, playing both board and video games, reading, occasionally found in mosh pits or in Femma.

This year I’m responsible on the HTO board for stakeholder relations, Nyyti ry, excursions, clubs, prospects and tutoring. As the stakeholder relations coordinator, I’m responsible for maintaining connections with various partners such as clubs, companies, tutors, prospects and Nyyti ry, as well as acting as a contact person during different collaboration events.

  • Daniel Pulkkinen

    Roles: Events
    Totem animal: Platypus

    Hello there.
I’m Daniel, and “Dani” works just as well, if not better. I’m originally from Helsinki, but thanks to work and studies I’ve since become a Vantaa resident.

These days my main hobby is going to the gym, mostly because it’s an efficient way to use my time, but tinkering with mopeds (motorcycles) and “messing around” with them is still very close to my heart.

This year, I’m serving on the board as Tapis, meaning the Event Coordinator. The main responsibility of a Tapis is, as the name suggests, planning events and organizing them.

  • Madeleine Tucker

Roles: Communication, Graphic Design, Internationality, Lab Coats
    Totem animal: Lynx

Hello hello, I’m Madeleine, and I’m in my second year of studies in Laboratory Sciences. I moved here from Oulu and have settled in well to Vantaa and student life. In my free time I love to play video games, draw, and hang out with my cat.

This year I’ll be doing graphic design, communications, internationality, and lab coats. These tasks include, among others, updating our social media, designing event graphics and patches, communicating our international affairs, and ordering lab equipment for new students.

Hello, I’m Pauliina, 31, and I’m a third year Industrial Management student, majoring in Supply Chain Management. Originally from Jyväskylä, nowadays living in Vantaa. When I’m not busy with my 3-year-old son, I like to go bouldering or just relax and watch tv or play video games.

This year I’m Culture, Sports and Flag Coordinator on the HTO board. I’m also one of our designated harassment contact persons. My role involves working with our culture team to organize events like sitz and the annual gala, and as the sports representative, I’m also involved in organizing for example a skiing excursion to Himos.

  • Saku Lepola

Roles: Events, ICT, Member Register, Internationality
    Totem animal: Tibetan fox

Heyo! I’m Saku, I live in Vantaa and my knees still work at 24 years old. I’m in my second—okay, third—year of Energy and Environmental Engineering, majoring in Environmental Technology.

A lot of my free time revolves around gaming. Besides the thousands of hours I've sunk into Minecraft and Terraria, other familiar titles include HOI4, KCD2, and Valheim. Besides gaming, I enjoy going on road trips by bike, and the occasional run!

I joined the HTO ry board this year and took on Events, ICT, and International Affairs.

As an Event Coordinator I work closely with our other coordinator to put on cool events like Esileikki and Tursajaiset. It’s a lot of organising, emailing, and meetings, but seeing the events come to life makes it all worth it!

As ICT, I do a lot of heavy lifting at the start of the year, mostly maintaining the member registry and our services. ICT is also involved in Tursajaiset, a role you don’t see from the outside when things go well. Finally, as Internationality coordinator, I’m out there organising interesting events for our international members, and making sure that everyone feels welcome and included regardless of origin. A role ever more important as Metropolia grows more and more international!

  • Sami Kokko

    Role: Advocacy, Megora
    Totem animal: Panda

Meowdy! My name is Sami Kokko, a second year biotech and chemistry engineering student from Helsinki soon to be 36 years old. Most of my time outside the school is spent on pondering various quizzical things alongside playing videogames and crocheting.

My duties in HTO include student advocacy and keeping tabs on Metropolia Agora spaces on different campuses. Student advocacy is a never ending journey of making sure students rights are respected and everything is kept fair. On top of working within the existing framework of rules and systems we participate in the constant process of developing a better tomorrow for students.

  • Selena Kulomaa

    Roles: Culture, Sports, Flag
    Totem animal: Bat

Hi, I’m Selena, 22 years old, from Helsinki. I study Energy and Environmental Engineering. In my free time I sometimes draw, color and play games. I also enjoy going to cafés.

I’m now in my second year on the HTO board, and my roles are the same as last year: culture, sports, and the flag. As the culture responsible I organize events such as sitz, the annual gala, the coverall baptism, and other events that promote student culture. Organizing sports events, like the Himos trip, is also part of my responsibilities. In addition, as the flag responsible, I take care of the flags and the mascot.

This year I serve as both the treasurer and secretary of the board. As treasurer, I handle invoice payments, expense reimbursements, and budgets, in other words keeping the board’s finances in order. As secretary, I write the minutes of board meetings and take care of document storage.

This is my second year in HTO, and this year I’m serving as a deputy member. Deputy members don’t have a designated area of responsibility, but our role is to assist other board members according to our interests and capacity. My personal goal is to be involved in creating content for HTO’s TikTok account and to organize fun excursions to interesting companies.

    Role: Deputy member
    Totem animal: Frog
